September 26, 2017 [S&P Global Platts] - Singapore-based Trescorp Alliance Pte. Ltd, currently engaged in the business of crude oil toll processing and crude and fuel oil trading, is preparing to launch oil storage and bunker services in Sohar port, with operations targeted to commence by 2020, a statement from Sohar Port and Freezone said Monday.
Sohar Port and Freezone is a deep-sea port and free zone in the Middle East, situated in Oman midway between Dubai and Muscat. It is managed by Sohar Industrial Port Company, a joint venture between Port of Rotterdam and the Oman.
Trescorp is gearing up to launch a new 45-hectare terminal at the Sohar Port South, a recently announced land reclamation project designed to create more space for the industry at the Omani hub.
The new facility will feature six deep-water berths, with 25 meter drafts, one of them capable of receiving VLCC oil tankers of up to 320,000 dwt supertankers, the statement said.
In its first phase, the terminal will be equipped to receive, store and blend crude oil, fuel oil and diesel. Construction of phase one will commence next year, with an initial storage capacity of 600,000 cu m, with future expansion planned to take the total storage capacity up to 1.8 million cu m, it said.
Expansion plans for phase two include gasoline blending, jet fuel, asphalt and a lube oil blending plant, the statement said.
Five hectares of the new Trescorp development are also allocated for the development of a Lubrication Park that will blend various grades of lubricating oil products, including marine grade lubricants, it said.
Supply of the products will include bulk delivery using lube barges to tankers bunkering in Sohar port, while road tanker access to the new facility is also being planned, it said.
