MOGAS Petroleum Inaugurated Kampala Depot

May 23, 2010 [The New Vision] - MOGAS Petroleum, dealers in petroleum and other oil-related products have put up a $2.5m (about sh5b) depot in Kampala as part of the company’s expansion drive.

Partha Ghosh, the managing director, said the multi-billion depot built on a four-acre plot of land in Banda, will have one of the largest loading terminals in the country with huge storage tanks.

“We are putting up five huge storage tanks with a capacity of 86,000 litres of fuel per tank. There will be two tanks dedicated to petrol, two for diesel and one for kerosene,” Ghosh told reporters at their offices in Kampala last week. “All our tanks are modern and the two tanks that are specifically for petroleum are built with a special blanket made of aluminum film to handle evaporation loss,” he added.

Ghosh said in the past ,they had been limited by their operating hours for loading fuel. But with this development, he added, they would be able to load fuel at anytime thereby maintaining a constant supply of product to their up-country stations. “With this in place, we intend to maintain a consistent supply of fuel and contribute to the streamlining of the fuel price mechanism in the country,” he added. He said the depot would also serve as a storage and point-of-sale for their automotive and industrial lubricant clients. The Mogas boss also clarified that they had amicably settled issues with all the former squatters on the land they had taken over.

Established in 1994, Mogas Uganda has over 20 stations across the country and employs over 200 Ugandans directly and indirectly. The company is part of the Mogas group with branches in Kenya, Tanzania, and the DR Congo. The group also has dealerships in Castrol products and owns a blending plant in Tanzania where lubricating oils are blended for industrial and automotive requirements.
