Klaipedos Nafta Signs a Deal with Belarus on Venezuelan Oil; Adds New Contracts to Diversify Shipment Orders

December 16, 2010 [The Baltic Course] - On Wednesday, Klaipedos Nafta, which operates Lithuania’s oil terminal on the Baltic Sea, and Transchema, the subsidiary of the Belarusian oil company BNK, signed a deal on the transportation of Venezuelan oil cargo via the Klaipedos Nafta terminal.

The parties to the contract undertake to handle the cargo only if both have the necessary capabilities, informs LETA/ELTA.

“The format of the agreement does not allow predicting the volume of cargo or its frequency, but it is important to us as a clear signal of Belarus indicating that their wish to load Venezuelan oil cargo through the Klaipeda oil terminal has not disappeared, our relations remain friendly, and negotiations on specific arrangements will continue,” CEO of Klaipedos Nafta Rokas Masiulis said.

Earlier this month Bloomberg reported that Klaipedos Nafta is expanding its client pool by adding new shipment contracts with companies such as OAO TNK-BP Holding and OAO Lukoil’s Litasco unit.

Klaipedos Nafta also signed oil-shipment agreements with Switzerland’s Arkham SA and Baltic Fuel Inc., a unit of Singapore’s Chemoil Energy Ltd. The agreements will help reduce dependence on its biggest client, AB Orlen Lietuva.
